MULTI-PITCH
ENDORSEMENT
This endorsement is awarded to individuals who have
a demonstrated capability in applying skills at height within the context
of multi-pitch
applications.
PACI members with multi-pitch endorsements
are authorised to:
- Conduct activities within the scope of their
endorsement that do
not lead to a formal qualification; and
- Act as a guide
within the scope of their endorsement where no formal training
is to take place; and
- Conduct training activities in multi-pitch
environments within the scope of their classification & endorsement
which lead to a formal qualification.
Performance Requirements:
To
qualify, an individual must:
- Be at least
18 years of age; and
- Be in good physical condition for working
at height and submit proof of medical fitness.
If a medical examination is required,
the form
must be signed by a licensed
physician and state that the applicant is fit for working at
height.
The physician signing the
form must not be the applicant;
and
- Have been operating in multi-pitch
environments for 12 months
with proof of experience. For purpose
of
RPL, experience must
be gained
in at least ten (10) different
multi-pitch routes. When determining minimum
experience:
- experience must include
a hanging belay where
no ledges
could be used
for support during
change-over from one
pitch to the
next; and
- safe ground
could not be reached within one
standard
rope length (50m).
4. Have a current
recognised qualification
in senior
first aid and CPR.
5. Critical underpinning
knowledge:
-identifying
likely
anchors
for use
in establishing a
belay anchor
system in
an elevated
work position
-using
a double
rope rope belay
system
(for multi-pitch lead
climbing)
-establishing
a belay
anchor system at
an
elevated
work position within a standard
rope
length
-retreating from
an
elevated
work position to reach safe ground
(the
work position
may be
more than one
standard rope length above
safe
ground)-safeguarding others
during change
-overs from one pitch
to the
next pitch
-identifying a likely route
to reach
safe ground using the available
equipment resources
Renewal:
1. Annual submission of a completed, signed PACI Membership
Renewal Agreement; and
2.
Annual PACI membership fees paid.
