TOP ROPE CLIMBING ENDORSEMENT
This endorsement
is awarded to individuals who have a demonstrated capability in applying
instructional
skills within the context of top-rope climbing.PACI instructors
with top rope climbing endorsements are authorised to:
- Conduct abseiling & top-rope climbing
activities that do not lead to a formal qualification; and
- Act as a guide where no formal training
is to take place; and
- Conduct abseiling training courses
which lead to a formal qualification; and
- Conduct top-rope climbing courses
which lead to a formal qualification.
Performance requirementsTo qualify, an applicant must:
- Be at least 18 years of age; and
- Have an abseiling endorsement or
equivalent; and
- Be in good physical condition for
abseiling and submit proof of medical fitness. If a medical examination
is required, the form must be signed by a licensed physician and
state that the applicant is fit for climbing & abseiling. The
physician signing the form must not be the applicant; and
- Have been Top rope climbing for 12
months with proof of 40 top-rope routes/climbs of Australian grade
16 totaling 1000m actual climbing distance. When determining minimum
climbing experience:
- No individual route may
be counted more than once; and
- Competency in belaying
from the ground and belaying from top of route is required; and
- At least two different
types of belay devices must have been used e.g.;
— Planular (e.g. Sticht
plate)— Tubular (e.g. ATC, Bug,
Pyramid); and
- Have a current recognised qualification
in senior first aid and CPR.
- Required top rope climbing skills:
-Select, use and maintain
top-rope climbing equipment-Select a route suitable for
top-rope climbing activities-Discuss the risks and hazards
associated with top-rope climbing-Rig a top-rope climbing system-Apply
a range of climbing techniques to enable upward progess in a vertical
and/or high angle
environment-Safeguard a top-rope climber
using a belay system
UpgradingA PACI instructor may upgrade to a lead
climbing endorsement by personal application to the Training
and Education manager. In addition, the applicant must complete
the following requirements:
- Submit proof of lead climbing experience
as outlined in the individual membership standards; and
- Assist an active status PACI instructor
on one complete lead climber course. Written verification from
the course instructor is required; and
- Successfully complete the lead climbing
instructor exam.
Renewal
1. Annual
submission of a completed, signed PACI Membership Renewal Agreement;
and
2. Annual PACI membership fees paid. |
